This is the Information Age. In our small town, rumors rapidly travel from person to person through chance encounters at the post office and grocery store. In our world, rumors disperse through the internet with the click of a button. Political ads and talk radio fan our insecurities into fear, distrust and hatred. The news media selects the stories to report, dissecting them into disconnected sound bites to grab our attention and win Nielsen ratings. Polls and focus groups are used to tailor the message with laser precision to maximize sales and buy our allegiance.
How do I avoid regurgitating and defending opinions formed from sound bites and obfuscations crafted to mislead, confuse and control me?
